Winchester Jail

Imagine the Winchester Jail with no lock to hold the inmates.  It was mostly used as an overnight shelter for "drunks" and "tramps." It was never fireproofed...hence the open door policy.  This jail was also a meeting place for the Winchester city council, police court and voting.  The building is complete with original iron fixtures.  The building was moved to Old Jefferson Town in 1977.  This building also holds a 300 piece collection of barbed wire donated by John Woolfolk.
