I am interested in hearing about the movement of the town of Ozawkie when the lake was formed. Is there anyone out there whose family was a part of that? When I moved here over 15 years ago, I started picking up the shards of glass that washed up on the banks of the lake. My intention is to use the glass to create mosaic stepping stones or perhaps a mosaic bench to place at one of the parks around the lake.

My family, the Hal Newell's (Hal/Jesse/VF/Jesse) had their property taken for the building of the lake. This property was originally Jesse Newell's (son of VF). The picture is of Hal and Eunice Newell in their house. I know we have some pictures of the farm, but I'll have to look for them. I've attached the plat map for 1916 when the property was still under Jesse's ownership. Section 33 was the property taken for the lake - for overflow allowance.
Did they leave anything in their home? From what I gather, some homeowners left things in their homes. I'm curious why they might have done that? Do you have any pictures of their dishes? I wonder if I might have some glass from their home?
